Ahoy!!! All members of BLSC

Glad to see spring has finally arrived after a very slow arrival, and the racing season has commenced.
Special THANKS!!! to all our members who came out and helped open the club. I believe it was a record I have never seen so many cleaning in the clubhouse, putting docks in the lake, raking up brush & leaves, trimming trees etc. We were wonderfully assisted by Scout Leader Jeremy, and the Boy Scouts, who brought a trailer, wheelbarrow, and rakes. Once again Patrick & his social group put on wonderful lunch!!! We had so many members working I had to make a special trip to Zehrs to buy more food; this a job the Commodore really appreciates.

Look forward to meeting most of our members at different events throughout the spring and summer. If you have any questions or suggestions don't hesitate to email me or have a discussion with me.

We have a wonderful club!!! Make sure you come to some of our social events. I look forward to greeting members at our annual wine and cheese on June 24 where we welcome new members and say hello to returning members

March 2016

Ahoy!!! All members of BLSC
As seasons go, Spring has always been my favourite. Nature’s time of renewal is uplifting and energizing for me, and probably one of the reasons I enjoy boating so much. The  feeling one gets finally seeing the snow disappear, the days getting longer, and the warmth in the air, really starts me thinking about working on my boat, getting it ready for launch, planning, and looking forward to the Racing & Cruising season ahead.
Your executive have been planning another great season of racing, cruising, and several FUN social events, which can be seen on BLSC Web Page. The important thing to remember is that all members should make a real effort to take advantage of the exciting events planned for the season. This is Your club, you are rewarded to the extent to which you participate.
In closing, I would like to express my appreciation to all members of the Executive who have spent many hours working as a team planning for 2016, and all members who work so hard to keep our club in great shape!! I believe we are going to have another outstanding season at BLSC.
See you on the water, or at the club house.

December 2015

I would like to extend a Wonderful Holiday Season, and a Happy, Prosperous New Year to all members of BLSC.

I would like to say that I am extremely honoured and pleased to have been elected your Commodore for 2016, and I will work very hard to fulfill the duties, and responsibilities you have entrusted to me.

The Executive Board for the coming year is again a strong well organized body, and I am totally confident they will move the Club forward, and accomplish all that is required for the upcoming year.

As we move into the 2016 Season, we find the club in very good condition in terms of Membership, Finances, Racing, and Social programs that we operate within the club. I would like to thank all those members who have given so much of their time, effort, and talent to make BLSC so successful.

In closing, I would like to encourage all members to come down , and enjoy, relax, and participate in our many programs throughout 2016.

September 2015

The days are getting shorter and the ramp is getting long!! It’s almost the end of another sailing season.
I hope you will agree that it has been a good year. Our membership increased over last year and we enjoyed a number of new social events together with some traditional ones.
The closing of the club takes place Saturday, September 26th beginning at 9:00am. This is the day we prepare the club for the off season by taking out the docks, gathering the picnic tables, cleaning the clubhouse and general tidying. There is lots to do and your help is greatly appreciated. As usual, we will have lunch when the work is done. The more hands we have, the earlier lunch is served!!
Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, October 25th. We are looking for a few new faces to join the Executive. If you are interested in becoming
more involved in the running of the club, let us know. We would love to have you. The Nominating Committee of Paul Lingen, Al Sullivan, and Jackie Stackelberg will be calling.
Thanks to all members for being so supportive during my two years as Commodore.
It was a pleasure to be able to be a part of such a great group of people.

July 2015

I hope you have had the opportunity to spend some time at the Club this summer whether as part of one of our organized social events, racing or just enjoying the space. And, if you haven’t had a chance yet, make it a priority to take a day or two to come out to relax and spend some time on the water.
Trespassers
We have had a number of instances of trespassers recently arriving either from the water by motor boat or through the gates. We will be increasing signage in an attempt to deter this activity. If you happen to be at the club at a time when there is no one else there, and you go for a sail, please lock the gate and clubhouse
while you are out on the water.
However, if you see someone that is not a familiar face, don’t assume they are trespassing. They may be new members or potential members. Please make them feel welcome. Our membership has increased from last year so there are a lot of new people at the Club.
Website
Lastly, I have received a number of positive comments about the look and functionality
of our new website. Take a look, if you haven’t already. And, let us know if you see anything that we can do better.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and I hope to see you at the Club soon.

We are ready!!  The clubhouse is cleaned, the grounds are raked, picnic tables are ready, and the docks are in.  Let’s go sailing!!

Thank you to everyone who came to help at the Club Opening.  The job is much easier when there are so many hands pitching in……and it’s a bit of fun too, as we catch up with friends we may not have seen since fall.   It was a nice day and the weather cooperated.  Although it was a bit cold first thing in the morning, which resulted in some frozen water pipes, by mid morning the sun had warmed everything up a bit and with some help from Paul Coppes and Paul Lingen, the water flowed in the Clubhouse.

Here’s to hoping the summer will be warm and sunny with a nice breeze so that we can all enjoy the beauty of the lake and our sailing club.

I look forward to talking to you there.

It’s officially SPRING and sailing season is on the horizon…….it will be an exciting, fun-filled summer at Belwood Lake Sailing Club!
Our Spring AGM is scheduled for April 19th in Guelph and all members are encouraged
to attend to provide their input to the business of the club and to hear what we have planned for the year ahead. Then the following Saturday, April 25th, it is Club Opening – a day to get the club ready for the season. Bring your work gloves, maybe a rake and, depending on the day…..a raincoat or sunscreen!! Rain or shine, we will be putting out the docks, cleaning the clubhouse and setting out the picnic tables and barbecues. It will be a day to prepare the club but also to socialize with friends you may not have seen since Fall.
I look forward to seeing you soon.

Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday that we were opening the club for the season, and now we are nearing the end!!

It has been a great year with a few new social events. There was a good turnout for the Club House Grand Opening and Sail Past. And, I believe, the rescheduling of the Junior Regatta and Commodore’ s Cup to offer a Pig Roast in September will be well received. We have an eager executive that is attempting to offer events for everyone and always open to suggestions for something new. So, if you didn’ t get the chance to come out to a social event this year, I encourage you to do so next year. We have a lot of fun!! But, we are not quite finished for this year. The Club Closing is September 27th and we need everyone to pitch in to bring in the docks, put away the picnic tables and rake the fallen leaves. Then stay for lunch!!

The final event on the calendar is the Fall General Meeting to be held in Guelph on October 26th. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Executive Team, we are welcoming volunteers.

Hope to see you at the lake soon,

Debbie Madden
Commodore
